The phone consultation is a brief and casual conversation where we can connect and get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit. It’s an opportunity for you to share a bit about what’s bringing you to therapy, ask any questions you may have, and learn more about my approach. There’s no pressure to commit—just a chance to explore your options.
The first session is a starting point and we work at your pace. First, we’ll review important information such as confidentiality, consent, and how the process works. Then I’ll spend time getting to know you, what’s been going on in your life, and what you’re hoping to gain from therapy. There’s no expectation to have everything figured out— just showing up is enough.
Not at all. You don’t need a clearly defined issue or a specific reason to begin therapy. Some people come in with something very specific, while others simply feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure. Therapy can be a space to explore whatever feels present for you.
If you’re feeling curious about therapy, that’s often a good place to start. You might be noticing patterns you’d like to understand, feeling overwhelmed, or wanting more support in your life. Therapy can offer a space to explore these experiences and determine what feels helpful for you. You don’t have to wait until things feel “bad enough” to reach out.
I support individuals navigating a range of experiences, including (but not limited to):

Standard sessions are typically 50 to 80 minutes in length, depending on your preference. The frequency of sessions is flexible and something we’ll decide together based on your needs, goals, and what feels sustainable for you. Some clients attend weekly, while others prefer bi-weekly or as-needed support.
Many clients begin by scheduling a 15-minute phone consultation, where we can connect and explore whether we feel like a good fit. This can be booked through my online scheduling system here or by reaching out to me directly via email (support@alternativerootstherapy.ca). From there, we can take the next steps together in a way that feels supportive for you.
